8 Bit Hip-Hop

So, I couldn't find a way to post music to the blog, but I think this deserves a post nonetheless so I'll just link to it instead. It's a medley of a bunch of rap songs remixed so as to sound like 8-bit Nintendo games. I think it's brilliant. Anywho, here's the link:

That track is dope. If you see the list of songs he mixed together and listen to the real instrumentals, it is amazing how accurate the melodies are. I wish there was some sort of hip hop animation to go with it...

Damn. That's great! Reminds me of Chiptune music; artists manipulate a video game sound chip to create new sounds and music from the 8-bit chip. I think its a very creative genre as they first have to deconstruct the toy (usually gameboy) and then reconstruct it to respond as an instrument. There's a lot of nostalgia to the 8-bit sound, I love it.

Yeah that is pretty rad. I wanna know how they convert the original songs into 8-bit sounds. I wonder if they are actually replayed manually or just run through some kind of conversion program.

I like the way this feels super-contemporary and fresh at the same time as it recalls the sounds of video games from the days of yore.
