This is an amazing video. It is a very raw look into culture, perhaps more so into humanity. It takes a simple question that calls upon the individual to share their deepest desires, needs, or fantasies. Occurring on the street corner, the question catches the public unaware during their daily business forcing them to come up with an answer, may it be hastily fabricated or slowly discovered in the individual. The camera is like a megaphone turned backwards towards the viewer's eye, capturing every expression, idea, and characteristic of the people featured.
This video is a delicate and precise version of the exercise that the Arts 280 class participated in a few days ago, concerning the interaction of people during a dialogue of questions and answers.
I think this video captures a few other things that we have talked about in class, but I'm leaving it up to you guys to say what.
Here is the Youtube channel by the creators of the famous "kid freaks out over wow" video. There is a dispute about whether these videos are real or fake.
The more I watch the videos, the more I believe these are genuine/candid video captures of a boy who quiet simply looses his temper often and easily. It seems that his family is aware of the boy's predicable reactions to particular circumstances that make him "freak out". So in this way the videos may be fake (or staged) in that his family sets up these scenarios that take advantage of his responses, which seems much more authentic.
What do you guys think about the other videos? Does the fact that there are more of them make them seem more produced, and thus, less real?
I'm still not convinced this technology is real, but if it is, wow. I read many sites that said that the website is just temporarily down so I guess soon we will see if it really works. Can you imagine what kind of implications a program like this would have for graphic design? I really want to try it!
I love watching dance videos. There is a strange relationship between listener and artists as the listener, by viewing a performance, percieves the intent of the artists through choreography. The MTV Music Awards highlights different up-and-coming artists that show promise not only in lyric, but also in performance. Lady Gaga has a very unique approach to performance. I thought it was odd it was on MTV because it is an off-the-wall performance on a mainstream television network, but then I realized that maybe this is a step in an artistic direction versus the mundane performances of previous artists. Here is a photo I took today in the science building. Can you see it? Its a Kit-Kat bar placed on the ledge to the right. I could see that it was unopened, so I figured that it would be safe to eat. I wanted it badly, but I was helpless and the thought of falling 3 stories over a candy bar was discouraging.
Although I was disappointed that I couldn't grab it, I became amused by the possibilities about how it came to be there. Was I a victim of a prank or an experiment? What did its previous owner intend upon placing it there?
This experience provoked a emotional reaction within me and got me thinking about risk v. reward, helplessness, and desire. If the experience were to be replicated/transformed/extrapolated upon, it might yield a fun and interesting project.
