What is your opinion on this?
It's difficult to pinpoint exactly what I think. As bizarre, polyganist and fetishistic as it is, I also find it super interesting.

wow that really speaks to something going on in the culture. Also, do you recall the piece before about women who fall in love with inanimate objects like the berlin wall and golden gate bridge? People are changing, I think. This piece would make a good topic for discussion.
I'm really not even sure what I think about this. It seems a bit disturbing, but incredibly interesting that someone could find something valuable in their lives through these dolls. I really wonder if they could really make you less lonely, or if they only make loneliness worse.
The American counterpart to these are called "Realdolls" - there are a few very interesting youtube documentaries about men who use/own them. They range from a man who tries to maintain a healthy relationship as well as a collection of Realdolls for when he is alone (the relationship fails), to this guy who clearly has an unhealthy emotional attachment to his one realdoll. Thinking of that "Adam" post I made earlier, it seems only a matter of (a short) time before sex dolls will be able to move and behave relatively realistically.
I was also interested to see at the end of the clip the cartoon/anime-styled dolls. That speaks to yet another level of fetishizaiton and fantasy.
oh and at least the American Realdoll company does make a few male models.

Did any of you see the movie "Lars and the Real Girl"? He falls in love with a blow up doll he believes is real. The community around him comes to regard her as a real person too. It is fascinating.
