Wait, That Says “Google”?!

This brief article claims that Google is being "smug" about the use of their logo... I find it quite creative, though I must admit that I have also experienced occasional confusion when visiting the page. What do you guys think about the fact that Google often recognizes foreign holidays but not necessarily American holidays? I wonder how they choose which events to represent. Do you think they need to do this? What is the benefit of altering the logo so much?

I also think it's really creative. And google is an information database. It's about finding information. By being creative with it's logo, billions of people learn about holidays and special events they new nothing of before.
